I'm not a vegan--not by a long-shot--but I found myself going to the same Vegan restaurant three days in a row in Tokyo. I can hardly believe it myself. The thing is, when the food is this good, it doesn't matter what your personal food preferences may be, you'll want to keep coming back.
Falafel Brothers is a global chain with two restaurant locations in Tokyo: Roppongi and Ebisu. The restaurant lives up to the name in that all of the meal options center on falafels. For those that don't know, falafels are a traditional Mediterranean dish made of ground chickpeas, fava beans, and various herbs and spices.
The menu is entirely vegan, but every option is customizable and full of flavor.
The three basic meal options are a falafel sandwich (half or full size), falafel salad, and falafel rice plate. Once you've selected the type of meal you want, the staff will call you over to the topping station where you can select two to three options. The options include things like baba ganoush, hummus, spanish olives, mixed greens, pumpkin and peas, and others. After you've picked your toppings, you can select from three tahini sauces: original, spicy, or limited edition (the special when I visited was North Korean style-seaweed inspired--much better than it may sound).
The seating in the restaurant is limited, with about 20 available seats split between a booth, a couple of tables, and a bar that faces the window.
Falafel Brothers is a dine-in or take-out establishment, and even has delivery options if the order is large enough. The delivery option is great if you're ordering for a larger travel party at your hotel or other accommodations.
Pricing is very reasonable for Tokyo. You can get a full meal for less than 1000 yen.
The Falafel Brothers Ebisu location is easy to get to; a straight shot from Ebisu station's east exit. Just follow the main road up the hill for about a five minute walk.
Note: if you're riding a bike, there's a space out front to park it, though you'll only be able to keep it there for as long as you're in the restaurant.
