On average you spend 24 years sleeping in your life. Is it 24 years of bliss or punctuated by tossing and turning? I have friends and loved ones who have been looking forward to that elusive night's sleep for years, whether at home or jet lagged halfway across the world.
Here in Japan Airlines we are all about looking after your well being. Physically, emotionally and spiritually, so you can enjoy your time whilst travelling and in your home, no matter which part of our blue planet you live in.
So in my search for a good night's sleep, I came across the makers of a health mattress product, which led me to the far away city of Kanazawa on the North west coast of Japan. Here a company called PMC have been working with the University to develop and patent this in Japan and Europe. Usually it costs a thousand dollars to purchase the mattress, but at the Royal Park's dream room, you can try this for a fraction of the cost.
The dream room is more like an apartment in the clouds, with a huge walk in bath area, massive floor to ceiling windows with views of Tokyo Tower and everything you can imagine, from your own PC and printer to a region free DVD player and iPod dock, as well as free Wi-Fi in every room. The furnishings and décor are in warm earthly colors with a quiet club like atmosphere.
At the end of a busy day, Royal Park Tokyo is the perfect place to recuperate. Head down to the Mandara Spa where you can be transported to another world. I had the one hour treatment which was relaxing and attentive, and the masseuse always made sure that the treatment was just right for me.
There are a number of restaurants offering exceptional meals, personalized service and magnificent views of the waterfront park or the metropolis shimmering below at night next to Shiodome Station. The Orpheus Lounge is a great place for a cold beer or sake while watching the sunset. In Japanese there is a word called “unkai”, which means sea of clouds. When you arrive at the airy ten meter high lobby, you definitely feel you are floating above the world. Each of the tower rooms is located above the lobby on the 28th floor, so the views from every room will take your breath away.
For a more spiritual and meditative retreat, head downstairs to the Japanese Garden, and feel with all your senses the calm and beauty of a traditional Japanese tea ceremony.
As these health and well being products are not available in the hotel website, Japan Airlines readers can order by contacting the author.
